Title: Agent based Viral Object Caching and Dissemination Overlay (AVOCADO)
Abstract: Improved dissemination of software, updates, messages, and data in tactical networks require new and adaptive systems to improve war fighter's decision making abilities, performance and systems readiness. Degradation of services across platforms needs to be avoided while reducing update times for C4I applications, techniques and technologies in tactical networks including remote nodes with limited and intermittent communications. The Agent based Viral Object Caching and Dissemination Overlay (AVOCADO) system provides a novel dissemination system for existing networks (such as the GCCS-M in Tactical networks) based on an overlay data caching system using agents, data objects, and automation scripts. Existing update management systems send files from a base node to each other node, causing countless redundant data paths. AVOCADO will stop redundant data transfer and wasted bandwidth while guaranteeing delivery of data, software and updates to all needed nodes.

WirlWind: Wireless Wide Area Incident Network (Phase I 2004, Phase II 2005-2007, Done)

This USDA SBIR project combines three existing ATC Technologies (SARA, MobiWeb? and GeoTIDeS?) to create a dynamically deployable ad-hoc network for emergency response personnel. WirlWind? includes ad-hoc wireless networking using ATC's SARA protocol, remote connectivity using ATC’s satellite uplink and routing technology (MobiWeb?), and a geolocation information dissemination system (GeoTIDeS?). WirlWind? has been endorsed by the National Wildfire Coordination Group (NWCG), USDA Forest Service, and the US DOI BIA.

STAMINA: Survivable Tactical Ad hoc Mobile Network Architectures (Phase I 2004, Phase II 2005-2007)

This Army CERDEC project provided fault tolerance enhancements for the Tactical Wireless Network Assurance (TWNA) program. Architecture Technology Corporation (ATC) leveraged its considerable expertise in designing and building intrusion tolerance techniques for mobile wireless networks to develop survivability enhancements to the components and systems developed by the TWNA program. This effort designed and is currently building prototype implementations of intrusion tolerance techniques including: A) Self-configuring Autonomous Firewalls (SCAF); B) Active Replication and Fault Masking; and C) Path Obfuscation techniques.

NetVSA: Network Visual Situational Awareness (Phase I 2006, Done)

The NetVSA? (Network Visual Situational Awareness) toolkit is an innovative, dynamic visualization toolkit for network monitoring and analysis. NetVSA? provides an extendable distributed agent based hierarchical monitoring and collection system. The primary challenges of large-scale network management are data collection and subsequent visualization. The sheer size of the network can overflow traditional centralized management approaches in seconds or minutes while further increasing network utilization. NetVSA? solves this problem and presents the data to human operators in a way that encourages the operator's mind to become an active component in the network-analysis process. NetVSA? is designed for evolving and dynamic networks; it is scalable to accommodate networks from small units of operation to large coalition forces.
